Eljött a tusfőzés ideje. Bevallom orrbavágott a tíz napos gombalé.

As you might know I am making ink from Coprinellus micaceus.
This fungus (like some other ink cap types) quickly turns itself into an inky mess. This is the process of deliquescence. The cap and gills simply turn into a liquid, which then can be used as a drawing ink. Pick some, leave them in a jar, wait at least 12 hours, then strain them. I left it longer and still found some chunky bits.
A week went by -since the harvest- and I just opened the bottle. Well. Some sources say that this ink smells. Let me tell you something....smell is an understatement. It REEKS of all things rotten. Nothing that some (quite a few) drops of melaleuca oil✿ could not smooth over. I hope.
The cooking process was a bit more upsetting (for the stomach). I diluted the mushroom mush with a bit of water and added cloves (and melaleuca oil...again). These supposed to neutralize the odor, and I must say they did work.
The liquid is now strained. I let it air, because it is too thin to paint with, although it is a nice wash and has a warm earth tone.
To be continued.
✿The oil of the tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) contains terpinen-4-ol, which have been shown to kill certain bacteria, fungi and viruses (healthline.com)
